Before I show you your first report, I ask about the few transactions that could distort it the most — a loan overpayment, say, or a transfer to your own account. You answer each one separately, you see how much the report changed straight away, and you can put it off at any moment.

A freshly connected account has one quiet problem: until it is known what a 20 000 transfer actually was, the report shows it as spending — and the first number you see is untrue. So before letting you into the app, I ask a few questions about the transactions with the largest effect on the report.

Up to ten questions, chosen by their effect on the report

I do not ask about everything — I pick up to ten transactions where your answer changes the report the most. The rest wait in the ordinary review queue. For each one you see the name, the amount, and what a given answer would do to the report before you choose it.

I do not turn up for two small oddities. I only ask once the unanswered transactions could move the report by at least a fifth of the cycle's income, or by a genuinely large amount.

One answer, one transaction

A loan instalment and an overpayment of the same loan look almost identical on a statement and mean something entirely different. So here every transaction gets its own question and its own answer — nothing is answered in bulk for a whole group. The options are the same ones as in the ordinary review, including "Loan overpayment", "Investment contribution" and "Transfer to your own account".

You can always move on

Under the questions there is a "Skip — you can finish later" link, there from the first second. This is meant to be the default path, not the only one: if now is not the moment, the questions come back in the transaction review.

At the end I show a summary: how many things I learned, and how much your report changed because of it.

Veelgestelde vragen

No. The "Skip — you can finish later" link works from the first moment, and unanswered transactions wait in the ordinary review.

Because answers given over incomplete data would have to be asked again. First I complete the history, then I categorize, and only then do I ask.
